When I began my homeschooling journey in 2020 I had no understanding of the fact that ALL CHILDREN LEARN DIFFERENTLY.
I had become accustom to the ways in which public/private school operates.
They create the mold and each child has to form into that mold.
Some students would acclimate and thrive.
While others ‘move to a different and unique drum’ and would utterly fail or barely make it successfully in school.
As a result their grades, confidence and academics reflected that.
drum roll please
When we as homeschooling parents take note of the way our students learn AND make the needed changes/adjustments then they THRIVE academically!!!
We are excited about seeing them blossom.
And our homeschooling journey unfolds beautifully.
The fact is NO ONE EVER TAUGHT US HOW TO PAY ATTENTION TO OUR STUDENT’S LEARNING STYLE.
‘I need short bursts of academics’ – learner?
‘I need to have my body moving’ – learner?
‘I need a shorter day of school’ – learner?
‘Can you change it up day to day’ – learner?
‘Can I doddle while I learn’ – learner?
‘Will you read to me’ and I answer the questions – learner?
‘I learn best after 1 p.m. – learner?
‘Mondays are not my best day to start academics – can I unschool on Monday instead’ – learner?
Ok….. hopefully you get it!!
As homeschoolers we have that FREEDOM to study our children and shape schooling towards their best way of learning.
They will show us what that looks like if we pay attention.
After many years of homeschooling I learned that my 8-children are each different learners. (((sigh))
Two are strong academics. Just give them the work and they are ready to get it done.
One of them needed to be moving every 30 minutes. Sitting on a yoga ball, jumping on an indoor trampoline between lessons, and visually learning.
Another wanted NO COLOR pages in their math because it was distracting.
One preferred to get their work done at 11 p.m.!!! They are a night owl. Who knew!? Cause I am not!!!
So many things I learned about my kids.
So many things you will learn about YOUR KIDS.
Do NOT allow yourself nor your children to be boxed in.
Deschool and then create what schooling should look like for your family. For your children. And for YOUR sanity.
Oh…what is deschooling you ask?
I will share it in another post. Stay tuned.
