MYTH: Homeschooling and Balanced Life

Here ya go!

I’m going to let the truth out of the bag.

The down right REAL UGLY TRUTH!

If you have been homeschooling for any amount of time you know that there is NO SUCH THING as homeschooling and having a balanced life.

Yea…no one wants to admit it.

For a homeschooling veteran like myself we are suppose to HAVE IT ALL TOGETHER and APPEAR PERFECT!!

Well let me tell you a thing or two!!

It’s not possible!

The reality is, “When you are striving for something life will get out of balance for a while.”

And that “while” just depends on how long you plan on homeschooling.

And what are you striving for?

Home educating your children. 🙂

And know what else?

You are going to HAVE TO learn how to have peace in living an UNBALANCED life for a period of time.

What am I talking about?

*clean house……out of balance

*plenty of sleep…..out of balance

*being the sole educator…..out of balance

*perfectly staying on top of all the required paperwork in a homeschool year….out of balance

*cooking hot meals every night for dinner….out of balance

*date nights with your spouse….out of balance

*keeping your laundry room basket emptied…..out of balance

*exercising…..out of balance

*not being the human vacuum at lunch time when your kids don’t eat all of their food….out of balance

*washing your van/car—-regularly…..out of balance

*building a business…..out of balance

*getting through a complete curriculum in a year…..out of balance

*having daily quite time (prayer, reading the Bible, journaling)…..out of balance

*showering every day….out of balance

*getting dressed every day……out of balance

*children looking decent every day for homeschool – Ha! …..out of balance

*going to the hair dresser…..out of balance

*grocery shopping….out of balance

*balancing your checkbook….out of balance

*brushing you teeth — Yeah, sometimes…..out of balance

*posting blog posts……out of balance

OMGeee!! The list goes on.

It is IMPOSSIBLE to keep all of the above things in BALANCE all at the same time!!

It’s not going to happen.

Just because you can’t keep ALL OF THIS STUFF IN BALANCE doesn’t mean you are a failure.

It means you are human with A LIFE!!

A LIFE that’s not PERFECT!!

Homeschooling Mom…..Homeschooling Dad….breathe.

Live life.

Embrace the out of balance-ness that you live in and balance what you can.

When you can!

The magic comes when you can find peace, joy, contentment and SUCCESSful goodness in the UNBALANCE!!

However, if you try to keep all of those things in BALANCE… WILL have a hectic, stressful, defeated, unhappy life!

With all that said….I encourage you towards embracing the UNBALANCED LIFE.

Homeschooling and Balanced Life is like oil and water. The two don’t mix!

There….I said it. 🙂

Thought Provoking Thursday: Pray for SC

Many of you may be aware of the saddening act that occured in Anderson, SC on Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2016.

I will not go into details of it in this blog post as you can find the details all over the news but will instead focus your attention to prayer and God’s faithful Word.

Please pray for the families who are affected in some capacity due to this unfortunate event.

                 Psalms 46:1

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”

Thought Provoking Thursday: Don’t Fall. Unite.

Ok….in all honesty I like the cartoon down below and have been trying out how to make t work for this week’s thought Provoking Thursday post. Ha! Hope I do it justice.

For the many hundreds of families that have found a home with UCHU-AA Option 3 this past year, it’s my prayer and desire that you have found a place of SUPPORT, HELP AND A SENSE OF UNITY.

Not a unity in spiritual beliefs. Nor homeschooling Philosophies.

But a unity in what you desire and what UCHU-AA offers its members.

On the same token…..if you’ve not found *unity* in what you need vs. what is provided through UCHU-AA then you may want a new home. And that is ok. 🙂

It is often good.

It is often necessary.

Choosing the right Option 3 association is as much of a BIG DEAL, I think, as finding the right car.

The seats MUST feel comfortable.

You gotta have plenty of leg room.

Enough space for the size of your family. (we have a family size of TEN)

The head rest must tilt at just the right place for you to be comfortable.

Sales price? Must be right.

You see what I am saying?

Unity. If we all stick together nobody falls

As the families of UCHU-AA continue to UNITE in the vision of  homeschooling with support for each other….no one will fall! No one. …Ok, in theory. Or at least for the sake of the point I’m making here.

UCHU-AA is continually adding value to what is offered based on what YOU have suggested.

Grant it, Option 3 support of the laws is foremost.

But what delicacies of *unity* have we added to help bring YOU support and a sense of unity with UCHU-AA?

Look at a few of the delicacies that will aid in your homeschooling unity and success:

Thought Provoking Thursday: Complaining or Ungrateful Children

I truly believe there is no great cure for complaining or ungratefulness THEN to see the conditions of others.

Our homeschooled children truly do have a blessed life of abundance.

Yet in their abundance, even if it is minimal, it is still more than many in the world may have.

This video struck something within me when I saw how the children of this video go on about the day of what they must do to *get an education.* Travel to school.

Our children have the wonderful opportunity to be home, taught by their parent(s), etc. etc.

I know the list is long.

However, how many of them STILL find something to complain about or be ungrateful for?

Well….perhaps this video will touch them in a personal and thought provoking way on this Thought Provoking Thursday!

Thought Provoking Thursday: Let’s Cook (video)

Just a thoughttttt……

Hoping it’s provoking…….

Teach your children to make this simple and delicious meal today!!!! (ok…maybe tomorrow after you get all the ingredients.)

Did you say your aren’t spontaneous?

Ha….well neither am I. But hey…there’s a first time for everything.

You children will probably fall out from the shock.

But the delicious tastes of these Mini Chocolate Covered  Olive Oil Cakes… will revive them!!

Bon Apetito!

Thought Provoking Thursdays: Bored of Education (video)

I was introduced to the following Christian-Follower of Christ music artist years ago. He’s not a *singing* artist but more so a lyricists. He is poetic. He has deep meaning to his words. He’s “Propaganda.”

If you’ve never treated yourself to sit and enjoy his lyrical candy then you should. 🙂

When I came across this video this past week it stopped me in my *thinking* tracks.

Hey……that’s why *WE*, my husband and I homeschool.

He-Propaganda said it in such eloquence.

Think on this for this Thursdays Think on This Series…………

bored of edcuation

Fortunately, we are discovering continually as we homeschool the benefits of homeschooling and not putting our trust in the Board of Education. I think we have frankly become bored.

Thought Provoking Thursday: Why You Should Start Your Home Business NOW (guest blogger)

Why You Should Start Your Home Business NOW

When you read that title what comes to mind?

  • I would love to but I’m exhausted.
  • I’m too busy.
  • I’m breastfeeding an infant and I don’t know what kind of business to start!

I totally get you.

For more than six years now I’ve coached moms who went on to start a business after making the same disclaimers only because they were willing to examine the bigger picture.

As homeschooling moms we have a lot to juggle on a day-to-day basis for the children and because of this sometimes we feel overwhelmed and can’t clearly see opportunities.

So here are 4 reasons why you SHOULD start a business now!

  1. You are already home and living on one income.

You don’t have to rush to build your business because you are already surviving on one income. Take your time to learn what you need to learn and grow at your own pace without spending a lot of money up front.

BIZ TIP: Learn to build your own website instead of paying someone hundreds of dollars. Take your time to learn about SEO, branding and building a tribe.

  1. You don’t have to answer to a boss about starting your business.

Many women working a job are censored by a non-compete contract with their company. Some women cannot fully advertise their business via social media for fear that it will get back to their employer. You don’t have to answer to anyone and therefore are free to grow and promote your business without repercussions.

BIZ TIP: Ok, more than likely you have to answer to your spouse and give account of how you spend the family money as you grow your business; but once he’s sold on the idea (and you will have to sell him) at least he is happy about your potential growth.

  1. You will provide your children with significant experience.

Running a business from home teaches your children (and you) about leadership, sales, marketing, people, service, faith, money, sacrificing and a host of other essential skills that are required to be successful in this world.

BIZ TIP: Choose a business that they can actually participate in with you. Let your teenager take a class on computer graphics. Let your pre-teen screen your emails. Teach your pre-schoolers how to seal envelopes and place stamps. My 8 year old girl is my Social Media Assistant, she goes through my Instagram account and like or comment on people’s posts. While we are driving I dictate text messages for her to send out. Yes, *Siri* can do it for me but this gives her a chance to participate.

  1. You will save lots of money.

Come on Lady T, how can I save money when it costs money to start a business? When we think about starting a business we must realistically look at the start-up costs but also remember that there are so many tax benefits that it may be your family’s way of saving money also. With a home-base business a percentage of your home space is tax deductible. Your computer, printer, cell phone, internet service, some of your travel, the books that you buy all may be included as business write-offs.  There were a couple of years when my business didn’t make ANY money but my accountant told me that my business write-offs rescued our family’s tax liability.

BIZ TIP: Find a good accountant who works with small businesses. Fortunately, in our digital world you aren’t limited to your local area.

There you go, 4 good reasons to start your business today! Do it slowly, do it with your family but DO IT.
