YOUR CHILD BEING BEHIND’ IN HOMESCHOOLING.
This is a grave misconception that I hear parents say when they are homeschooling.
‘My child is behind.’
‘I want to make sure my child is not behind.’
‘How can I check to see if my child is behind?’
In homeschooling there is no measuring stick.
No rubics to follow.
No ‘grade’ requirement your student must reach.
As an Option 3 homeschooling parent there is no one setting the requirements of educational pace other than your student and maybe you.
In public school the pace is set for learning. If the student doesn’t follow the pace set for them by the public school then they fail a grade level, receiving a failing grade, required to do summer school, etc.
THE BEAUTY OF HOMESCHOOLING is that you can disregard ALL OF THAT THINKING.
Allow your student FREEDOM TO LEAEN without all of those pressures.
Focus on developing the LOVE OF LEARNING within your child.
ALLOW THEM THE FREEDOM to learn at their own pace.
A homeschool student SHOULD NEVER receive a failing geade if they are learning for mastery.
Learning for mastery means they are working to UNDERSTAND and COMPREHEND what they are learning. Not for a grade. But because… THEY SHOULD understand.
DESCHOOL from all of the rhetoric that comes with public schooling.
Your student is never behind if they are learning at their speed of learning and understanding.
