New Year, New Lifestyle

Happy New Year! So this is the time of year for resolutions. Now I don’t really like New Year’s resolutions because the idea is to take on a goal that you’re not mentally or physically prepared to accomplish. You’re expected to go from couch potato to workout queen or slob to prince charming overnight. It leads most people to failure (and usually out of lots of money).

It’s ridiculous! No I’m not saying it’s ridiculous to set goals. What I am saying is we set ourselves up for disaster whenever we create goals that we are not ready for. So what do we do?

Start by declaring to make lifestyle changes. These lifestyle changes will be where you see yourself in the long run. I believe instead of making baseless resolutions, you have to create long range goals that fit your lifestyle. Then, on the journey to complete these changes, you will create goals that are small and manageable.

You have to begin by evaluating what you need, what you want, and what you are ready to tackle. You wouldn’t make a goal to become vegan if you don’t eat vegetables. You should start by learning to cook, eat, and like one vegetable. If you haven’t exercised in 10 years, joining a gym may not be the best first step. Maybe you can aim to walk around your neighborhood for 35 mins a few days per week.

You have to create goals based on your own personal needs and only considering what you can handle at that time. These will build a foundation for lasting change. Once you determine these small first steps, you’re on your way to permanent change.

So stop feeling pressured to create resolutions that don’t suit your life or your family. Simply look at what you need and what you’re ready to take on at this present moment. Take some time to create manageable goals that can lead to positive changes.

I’m most importantly a follower of Christ by who’s blood we believe there is salvation. We believe in biblical Truth only. Being led by the Spirit of God, we seek to raise our family by that Truth. I am a wife of 7 years, and mom to 8 wonderful children ages 6 years-11 months. We have been homeschooling for 2 years officially (6 if you include preschool). I enjoy music, gardening, and learning to live a healthy, non-toxic lifestyle.
