Under Option 3 homeschooling law one of the required elements that each home educator must follow is that of providing semi annual progress reports.
(3) a semiannual progress report including attendance records and individualized documentation of the student’s academic progress in each of the basic instructional areas specified in item (c) above.
I thought I would take a moment to give an example of what a progress report would look like and include.
However, since the law doesn’t clearly spell out what all should be included in this report it is up to each individual home educator to create as they like. With that said, below is just a *helpful* example that may help you along the way.
Also, semianuual progress reports does not spell out the exact *date* in which these progress reports should be completed in the year. Normally, home educators will complete a progress report half way through the school year and then once again at the end of the school year.
Because each home educator start school and end school at a different day and time of the year *semiannual* will definitely be a different day for each family. 🙂

Tongue of the Learned: Literature and Creative Writing
Josefina is doing well as we progress through our Abeaka readers. Her confidence in reading continues to improve with each session of reading. She is now reading on Abeka readers 5.6 which are complete chapter books.
For each four chapter books she reads she earns her Pizza Hut Book-it coupon that entitles her to a free personal pan pizza. Again, this drives her to becoming a better and fluent reader and comprehender of her reading. See book list attached.
Discovering God’s Creative Power in Science: Engineering and Science
We are using a Christian based/focused view of Science from Apologia.
Since Josefina’s reading is so well she often will pick up the book and read on her on through each lesson
Further study of science was completed using STEAM focus of science at our homeschool coop. This semester they studied motion and design

More than a Conquerer: Conquering Math
Josefina is utilizing Abeka Math 5. As a proclamation of her enjoyment of math Josefina has pass all of her quizzes and tests which are in her portfolio.
This semester the focus of math has been:
Place value
adding whole numbers with carrying
story problems
money
subtracting whole numbers with borrowing
multiplying whole numbers with carrying
two and three digit multiplication
dividing whole numbers and money
English linear, liquid and weight measures
Strong and Fit Temples: Physical Fitness and Health
Josefina participated in physical fitness at both our local YMCA and at our STEAM Academy.
At the YMCA their focuses of PE were:
swimming lessons
volley ball
soccer
basketball
tennis
putt-putt
At STEAM Academy Josefina’s class utilized the Presidential Challenge for this semester. They were given the challenge to reach certain goals within this year.
running a mile- 1 mile in 12 minutes or less
jumping jacks – 50 in a minute
push-ups – 15 in a minute
sit-ups – 12 in a minute
Josefina’s progress is excelling the expectations for her age/grade level
During the week she continues her practice and complete her challenges during the week daily at home.
God Revealed in History: Social Studies with History
Josefina used Tapestry of Grace for for our history studies.
This year our focus is Twentieth century history. This was completed with weekly Skpe sessions with another family in order to foster accountability and discussion.
Throughout this semester the students gathered to complete hands-on work to help cement their learning of this time period.
Projects were:
*victory garden
*two lap books
*designed a model air planes while studying the Wright Brothers
*view a video on the Twentieth century
*read numerous of books weekly to complete required TOG reading (book list is attached)
Tongue of the Learned: Writing/Spelling/Grammar
Josefina been utilizing IEW technique of writing which has given great depth to her love of writing. She completed IEW level A this year in a group setting and completed all assigned writings which is available in her portfolio.
Spelling continues to be a struggle for her. However, we continue with reading and learning her spelling in everyday life.
Abeka Grammar A is what she uses for Language arts. She indeed has gained a great grasp of grammar and the various mechanics of English grammar. This subject has grown *on her* as at first she wouldn’t have considered it her favorite but now fairs well on all of her test.
HIS Creative Arts: Music/Music History/Music Theory/Music
Josefina continues to study Suzuki piano and has consistently moved on from through the book levels and is now on Level 4 in Suzuki.
Her piano instructor works weekly on Music theory which has included recognizing reading the musical notes and not just playing piano by ear which is the Suzuki method.
In Joseinfa’s STEAM Academy she has studied music theory with her classroom guide. The list of those musicians are included. Additionally, she was required to write a paper this semester on her favorite musician. She chose Bach as she had to play his Minuet in G piece.
Display of His Creative Arts: Art/Art History
Josefina has fair well in this course at STEAM Academy where they study a wide range of artist. Not only learning about the artists but why and how his artistry became famous. Then they tried to utilize the artists technqiue through their own creativity which as then placed within their art portfolio.
All mediums of art was studied and utilized this semester:
chalk
water paint
pencils
The above serves as an example. You would do the same thing for each subject. And be sure to list any field trips you all went on throughout the semester.
Be sure to include attendance number of days.
You can also include grades up to this point of schooling.
You can attach some of your students work.
Lastly, you can certainly include potential work, activities or courses you plan to complete this last semester of the school year.
