Creating New Holiday Traditions

As a wife, mother, and homeschool educator, I am always looking forward to spending time with my family. One of my favorite time of the season is Thanksgiving and Christmas because it is an opportunity for my family and I to cook, to decorate the house for Christmas together.

I cannot forget about the winter break from school to enjoy spending quality time together.

The holiday seasons are not all about the gifts, but it is a time to

be thankful for the opportunity to not worry about work, school, or stressors of life in general. It is a time to celebrate with family.

What are some of your family holiday traditions?

Do all of your family members meet at a specific house for the celebration?

Does everyone cook and celebrate together?

How has COVID-19 effected your holiday traditions?

Growing up, my family celebrated Thanksgiving and Christmas together at my mother’s house. Everyone would meet at her house to eat and to spend quality time together. This was a time to laugh and to catch up with everyone because we have not seen one another.

Since having my own family, family traditions have changed. My immediate family celebrates at our home just the four of us.

Four years ago, we celebrated with family, but it ended up not being a positive environment. Therefore, we decided to create our own family traditions for the holidays.

Currently, we celebrate at home just the four of us. The day before Thanksgiving, my husband prepares the Thanksgiving meal with the assistance from all of us. On Thanksgiving, we enjoy a delicious meal together.

The weekend of Thanksgiving, we locate the Christmas decorations, and we put them on the exterior and interior of my home. My favorite Christmas tradition is decorating the tree with my sons. I enjoy decorating the tree because it is a task that my sons and I complete together.

Along with decorating for the holidays, my husband and I are working on creating inventory for my Etsy store titled DeveghomemamaUCD. At DeveghomemamaUCD, I am selling affordable handcrafted necklaces and earrings for the entire family, custom t-shirts, and gift baskets too. If you are interested in viewing or purchasing any of my items. Here is the direct link https://www.etsy.com/shop/DeveghomemamaUCD.

Family traditions are very important to me because it is something that I would like for my sons to continue once they are adults with their own families.
