Defeating a Giant

We took a short field trip on Friday. We were able to pick strawberries and have lunch. Most importantly we got some fresh air and sunshine. While there, of course, we saw people picking strawberries with masks and/or gloves. My oldest, who is slightly aware of what’s going on right now, noticed and began to panic a bit. We of course calmed her fears and assured her what we believe according to our faith.

This instance makes me see just how fear works. One person is scared concerning something. They react based on that fear. Others see this reaction, and they too begin to react in that way. We see it in mobs, families, and even on the toilet paper aisle. Fear is a spirit that quickly and easily infects.

I believe these words, “for God did not give us a spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind (self-control);” 2 Timothy 1:7 YLT. We always think that the blessings God has given us through Christ are material things. However, when He opens His heart to us, He gives us EVERYTHING we need. He even gives us these weapons of spiritual warfare.

So I don’t just read this scripture, but I believe and live the scriptures. In times like these when met with a giant such as fear, it takes power to fight a Goliath such as fear. It takes the all powerful weapon of love to conquer it. And it takes self-control to not react like the crowd and stay in faith.

Worrying, being scared, just being cautious are the same. They are all driven by fear which leads us to panic, anxiety, and even violence. While we are all dealing with the realities of our world, let’s not forget that we have tools to combat and defeat the giants in our lives, especially fear.

I’m most importantly a follower of Christ by who’s blood we believe there is salvation. We believe in biblical Truth only. Being led by the Spirit of God, we seek to raise our family by that Truth. I am a wife of 8 years, and mom to 8 wonderful children ages 7 years-1 year. We have been homeschooling for 2 years officially (7 if you include preschool). I enjoy music, gardening, and learning to live a healthy, non-toxic lifestyle.
