Home Educators Special  Needs Alliance  (HESNA) is a movement of homeschoolers, whose mission is to provide encouragement to homeschooling families with children who have learning delays, physical disabilities, dietary restrictions, and any other special needs. HESNA was birthed out of United Christian Homeschoolers Unlimited (UCHU) under the directorship of Angela Perry on August 2014 as Upstate Special Needs Homsechoolers of SC (USNH). We have since added HESNA as our umbrella group to service families all across the state of South Carolina and bordering counties in North Carolina.

Angela Jordan Perry is the homeschooling mom of eight children. Ages 20 to 5 years old. Homeschooling now for 16 years with 13 years to go Angela realized the absence of focus, help, resources for the homeschooling special needs community. From this non existence HESNA was birthed.

“We are definitely at the grass roots of this movement. But as more and more homeschooling families of children with special needs decide to reach out and connect so that they can receive help for their journey the more we will see entities like HESNA come to life and flourish. My heart is full to overflowing with desire and tenacity to see to it that the homeschooling community become inclusive of our special needs homeschooling children. That they find a place to thrive and ‘be.’ It’s HESNA’s desire to be the viable resource to see that this indeed happen.”

Our goal is to connect families with resources that may assist them in their homeschooling journey. This is done through assisting families in starting  local support groups, workshops, and an annual conference.  We are already doing so here in the Upstate, through our monthly meetings, workshops, playdates, and moms outings with USNH.

The goal of our instruction is to love with a pure heart, a good conscience and a sincere faith. (1 Timothy 1:5)
