Monday’s Message: Why Put Your Children in Public School?

“Why Put Your Children in Public School?” is the question on the table for Monday’s Message.

As I share in this week’s video it is something that I’ve been pondering for about a month. I’ve not settled on a sure answer yet. Haha!

I’m even considering visiting our local schools to see what I think. (Yes, I really did say it. Lol.)

Viewing my video you will be able to see my thought process and the concerns that I am dealing with. Which are real, real, real!

I’ve been homeschooling now for 15 years with 14 more years to go.

That’s a long time.

As I get older the more I can feel myself wondering if I should continue along the homeschooling journey.

After all, I am still homeschooling seven children. Seven children – I – said!! 🙂

I know that the Lord allow things for a season. Maybe this journey is just a season.

However, being sensitive to His voice, guidance and releasing is of utmost importance for me.

As for the today, I am holding on to this Scripture I share in this video to see it lived out and being active within me. 🙂

2 Corinthians 12:9

“But He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.”

I sure welcome your thoughts, comments and suggestions. Especially from those who have homeschooled for many years now. 🙂

What do you think?

If your children are in public school or a few are then you were able to come to a definitive decision. I’m not there yet. 🙂

  1. Angela – I think a lot of folks have pondered this themselves. I give you credit for putting it out there! I think the answer goes back to what you said (paraphrasing) about parenthood being what God has called us parents to do. Other activities, even noble ones such as volunteering, fall behind God, marriage, children. If it is a lot of “extra” stuff that is pulling away from any of these three, then that may be the thing that has to go.

Of course, how to educate one’s children is a very personal decision not the same for everyone!

I have friends who home schooled 6 children. At times they opted to try Christian schools instead (not public schools). They always came back to home schooling, never happy about their Christian school options or experiences, often for the same reasons people avoid public schools. That is not a statement against all Christian schools, but just an anecdotal story of their experience, which was not what they would wanted as home schoolers.

If you are looking for a way to take a little of the load off of you with your middle/high schoolers, may I suggest looking into VirtualSC? It is free, state-sponsored online program serving S.C. students who currently attend public, private or home schools in grades 7-12. There is a wide variety of courses (aligned to state standards) and courses are taught by licensed teachers. The Web site is http://www.virtualsc.org . I am happy to help answer any questions about VSC as well!
