As homeschoolers we can get so dog on busy with a lot of things.
Running here. Running there.
Taking children to this practice. To this club. To this event.
Constantly on the go!
I remember there was a time in our lives when we were considered *homeschoolers* yet we were never home.
Do you know what I’m talking about?
I was always behind on house chores.
Having a hard time finding when to go grocery shopping.
Feeling my schedule was always jammed packed!
We ate almost every meal for dinner in the van as we had to get to ballet, tap or karate and more.
I was constantly hollering at my children to, “Hurry up! We’ve gotta go. Let’s get moving.”
It was constant.
Finally, after a season of all that *chaos* that I just described, I decided that was enough.
We stopped everything. No more violin. No more dance. No more events. Nothing.
And we took some time to reevaluate.
My husband and I took some time to seek the Lord and see what was the essentials for our lives as a family. And if it wasn’t essential, no matter how good it was, we stopped it.
After that time of sabbatical and time of seeking the Lord the only thing that we felt to continue was their violin studies.
If you don’t know FAITH and the act of SEEKING the Lord goes hand in hand.
We needed to know that we weren’t going to mess-up the plans that the Lord had for our children lives by stopping everything or by even considering not doing those things anymore.
We needed the assurance of knowing that no longer participating in these things would not hinder them getting a scholarship. Not hinder in them developing an amazing skill or discipline that could shape their future.
After all, we parents plan to do these various activities in hopes of helping our children’s future in some way.
But we needed to go the Lord, believe that He would direct us and seek Him for guidance and direction about these various things that I was so busily involved in day to day with my children which was causing us to be like rats in a running wheel.
Scripture tells us the following:
And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.” Hebrews 11:6
I’m sure you have always read that Scripture in light of salvation. Or maybe you have always heard that Scripture read as a prelude to someone coming to the knowledge of the Savior and Redeemer of their souls.
However, I encourage you to soberly investigate that Scripture all the more. Read the entire chapter as a matter of fact. 🙂
Look at it from the end of the verse up forward to the beginning of the verse.
I must earnestly seek Him. He will reward those who do just that. Before you can earnestly seek Him you must believe that He exists. And before you come to Him you must believe. And before you can do any of those things I just mentioned you must have Faith! 🙂
Well……if you are seeking the Lord specifically about…………..say, what things my children should or should not be involved in during our homeschooling years then I still have to do all those things as I go to seek the Lord about this concern.
I must have FAITH that He will answer me.
I must have FAITH that He even exists.
I must have FAITH that He will reward me (answer me) as I earnestly seek Him for the answers.
Well, I believe that’s what we did.
Was it a hard decision to make and tell our children?
Did they understand?
At first NO but then they accepted that we sought the Lord for His guidance and direction on the matter.
The Mighty God in which many of us homeschooling families put our hope and trust and faith in says He WILL reward those who earnestly seek Him. So we must have faith that He will do just that.
I want to encourage you to take time to earnestly seek Him regarding the things on your heart this Christmas season concerning your homeschooling lives.
First, have faith. Because without FAITH it is impossible to please God.
Second, believe. Believe that He exists. That He is who He says He is and will do what He says He will do.
Thirdly, seek. Earnestly seek Him. The One who can give the answers, give the directions, give the guidance, give the encouragement/peace and the One who can give the provision.
Because then He’ll give the reward according to His Sovereign Will. Just remember Wise homeschoolers who are wise men/women still seek Him.
Blessings for you for the journey.
